Consolidating Mortgage Debt with Other Debt
If you are thinking about consolidating your debts in with your first mortgage, you should possibly rethink it unless you seriously see the clear advantage. Debt consolidation is usually not something you want to consider with your first mortgage but if you decide to move forward with it, then you should do so cautiously.
Consolidating your debt from credit cards, loan companies and even car payments into a debt owed on your home can mean trouble and it is because of the length of the typical mortgage loan. Often, if you compared apples to apples, you would discover all you are really doing when you consolidate daily bills with a mortgage payment is simply extending the term of the money you owe and paying more in the end by doing it. The reason is clear. You can’t just consolidate your debt with other debts and then decide to pay off a certain portion of the note you feel like belongs to debt consolidation. However, there is something you can do.
If you feel like you want one payment for everything, you can use your home to consolidate your bills into one and then work diligently to apply more money to the principle. If you are really trying to get out of debt and stay out of debt, this is something you can do to help initiate lower payments and quicker payoff but you do have to make a conscious effort to pay it off.
Consolidating your mortgage debt with other debt is generally not a good idea. If you have a fifteen or thirty year mortgage and decide you can consolidate your debt and your mortgage, make additional payments and principle payments as much as possible. You might be debt-free sooner rather than later showing the theory of combining all debt together as being a bad deal untrue.
When consolidating mortgage debt with other debts, debt consolidation experts would probably discourage you from doing it but in doing so, you may be able to get out from under the burden of debt quicker. See what works for you and then do what helps you get out of debt quickly and effectively. Not everyone got into debt the same way or at the same time and chances are, you aren’t going to get out of debt the same way anyone else does it. See what works for you and then apply all of your energy into debt consolidation and debt relief.
